2015 Toyota Tundra Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
This generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound. Among them, the Tundra's ride is jittery, especially with the TRD off-road package.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Awsome power from the 5.7...runs very very good!!"

David K., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Great blend of power and smooth transmission shifts."

Mark E., OH (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Drives like a smaller truck, tight turns, very responsive, handles like I want."

George B., MA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Love the engine. Big v8 with plenty of power."

Anonymous, SD (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The 5.7liter V8 engine is there for you when you need it!!! Press on the accelerator and the truck responds immediately. The trailer sway control function really does work when towing a trailer. I will put this Tundra up against other brands any day of the week!!!"

Joanne H., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"plenty of power while pulling 6000 pound trailer handles well under all circumstances"

R F., BC (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"acceleration is wonderful. Truck easily powers up hills and merges on freeway."

Matt H., WA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Accelerates well and has very solid steering feel."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"All the newer cars have a new useless feature. I’ve driven automatics with both feet since 1966 as recommended by my driving instructor. I held the speed record for braking by NY state troopers for years at the State Fair. Now if you accidentally touch the brake pedal during acceleration you are thrown against the steering wheel as the car brakes itself as a 'safety feature'. Not only are you left in the middle of intersections, but one is unable to steer! I think the government has better ways to spend our money!"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The V8 provides excellent acceleration, and it tows even large, heavy loads effortlessly. Handling is competent and secure."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"it's great"

Bonnie C., NV (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Does a great job pulling our 5000# RV trailer."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles the road very well. Almost feels like you're driving a car. Acceleration is top notch and engine sounds well. Transmission shifts very well."

Michael P., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Smooth shifting up and down, especially when towing. Even when towing, the acceleration is very strong, and engine/transmission braking going downhill works very well."

Anonymous, CO (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"When I am behind the wheel of the Tundra, I'm king of the freeway. Look out buster, I'm coming through."

Martin B., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Very powerful, equal to other 1/2 ton pickups I had demoed. Very stable tracking on the road, sure steering, and the safety electronics are quite useful."

Stephen D., ID (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Good acceleration, handling pretty good."

Ronald L., AZ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent acceleration and handles great."

Anonymous, LA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Awesome power for acceleration and smooth, comfortable handling."

D H., OK (2015 Toyota Tundra)

Sterling D., AL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Great handling, and comfort"

Steve G., FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Has very good acceleration and Responsive handling."

Scott G., SC (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Great acceleration and driving experience. Towing of trailer weighing about 6,000 pounds is no problem at all."

Steve H., SC (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"acceleration and handling great, park with ease"

Russell H., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"easy on ramp gunning up"

Anonymous, PA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"It just dominates the driving environment. "Look out autos, I'm coming through!""

MARTIN B., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles great in the snow"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Great acceleration, smooth and quiet. Comfortable."

MAX W., AR (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Has a problem with quick acceleration. In an emergency I can't depend on the truck not stalking out. It doesn't actually turn itself off, it just stops. Dealer can't seem to reproduce it after 5 visits. Not a very satisfactory response."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"I like the acceleration I had the smaller v8 their is a bigger power"

ROBERT R., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The good- I have a TRD Pro. The suspension is excellent, even when on road. Of course, the power of the 5.7L engine is strong throughout the RPM range. The Bad- No matter how gently I try to drive, the gas milage hovers in the 12 to 13 mpg range. I was hoping for better."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is only adequate. Vehicle does a lot of upshift/downshift when in cruise control - very annoying."

RICHARD H., WA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Lots of power and feels solid."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Drives quite, runs great, handles good"

BILLIE G., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"For a 5.7 liter V8 the acceleration is lethargic compared to other vehicles I have driven. However, there is more than enough power for towing and hauling a load."

N H., CT (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Poor acceleration, had a new 97 Toyoda truck, couldn't get out of its own way, this 2015 is exactly the same wat, no improvements in 18 years."

KAY P., PA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Frequently does not handle corners on a dirt road without chattering sideways"

Anonymous, VT (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck drives like a luxury car, very smooth"

PHILIP C., MI (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is slow. Handling is laborious. the side view mirrors and their proximity to the window support create dangerous blind spots on the left and the right of the truck."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Entune entertainment system is not very good. Always dropping connection to the phone and none of the apps are very user friendly."

Anonymous, ND (2015 Toyota Tundra)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats made of cheap materials and degrading over time. Truck seats should not crack or tear in 3 years."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The leather seats in the 1794 Edition are luxurious. The multifunction leather seats are superb. The amount of room in the rear seats is spectacular, and people comment that the rear doors are actually longer than the front doors! Thus, easy for hauling adults, pets, things, or kids."

Stephen D., ID (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The leg room is incredible and the ride is very good considering it is a big truck."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Very happy"

Marvin T., OK (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Good ride, seats are comfortable even on long drive."

Ronald L., AZ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Quiet, Comfortable ride much like our Explorer."

Anonymous, OH (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"This is, in a word, the Cadillac of trucks. Growing up in the '40's and 50's, when trucks were working stiff vehicles for hauling, this tundra although it can do that, just doesn't feel, drive like, smell like (my father smoked "stogies) a truck. This truck has plush leather seats, top o the line sound system and seating for six. This is my wife's vehicle."

Martin B., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Doesnt handle bumpy freeways nicely...bounces too much"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Bad: passenger seat is extremely uncomfortable for me, at 5 ' 4". My husband built a platform on the floorboard to lift up my legs, and I sit on a cushion because the seat is so hard."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Best seats ever"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Plenty of room and comfort. Rides like a luxury car but fully functions as a truck."

Mark E., OH (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"suspension is a little stiff in y TRD model. cabin is quiet and seats are comfortable for the long haul."

Matt H., WA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Good solid comfortable seats that are easily adjusted."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The cabin is roomy and the seats are very comfortable. It drives luxuriously for a large truck. Enjoy it very much."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are extremely comfortable with very soft ride for a truck. Noise is OK for me, you can hear wind noise but not objectionable"

George B., MA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"egress and ingress sucks in this car. Mercedes and Audi have a much better ingress/egress"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"I can hear too much outside road noise inside the cab which interferes with bluetooth and calls.Im on the phone often."

Rhett S., GA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck is more comfortable to take long road trips in than most cars we've owned."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Our Tundra has great comfortable seats. Ride is a little rough (it is a truck capable of hauling 10,000 pounds) but it is very quiet."

George G., IL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are upgraded, 10-way, multi-functional, but they are just too large and are very uncomforatable. They don't fit a regular body well, and on the drivers side, they are too far away from the arm rests to comfortably engage the steering wheel. I put a foam wedge on the seat to improve my back position."

JOHN D., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are too hard. I have to sit on a pillow on long trips to avoid a backache. My sister has the same issue with her Tundra."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Two negatives and one positive. First the neg: The ride sways far too much after a bump in the road. Second, no top handle on the driver's side to hold on to when entering or exiting the truck. The pos: The comfort of the front seats. I have back and leg issues, which makes it difficult to drive some vehicles. But the front seat of the Tundra is perfect for me.."

SHANGREG P., OR (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Front seats are extremely comfortable, both for heavier/taller driver and for shorter/lighter passenger."

Anonymous, OR (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Previous Tundra had passenger side electric seat controls. Not on this one. dispointing as did not realize it until on our Maine logging roads and tried to adjust seat"

Anonymous, ME (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"As you mentioned in the annual car issue the ride of my Tundra TRD package is not good. On any road that has wavy pavement such as occurs on highways, the vehicle bounces and is just outright annoying. Dealer had no suggestions to fix this."

Anonymous, CO (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Poor fuel mileage needs back up beeper and side beeper"

BILLIE G., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Took it into the dealer three times to fix, what I believe, is front end squeaks and rattles. They finally said it was the spare tire holder which I think is a stupid answer. I don't think their Toyota service people know what they are doing. If I have something major go wrong I doubt they will be able to repair it."

WILLIAM N., FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Climate control excellent. Power seats very adjustable. Noise level OK. Back seat is huge. Ride is not a zippy as my former 2004 Tundra."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable ride drove over a thousand miles felt like I had not driven that far"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats could be more comfortable for the price and trim level of the vehicle. Climate control could be smarter. My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe always started with the window defroster on, which made a lot of sense in the winter. With my Tundra, I have to remember to turn the defroster on when I leave the vehicle the night before, otherwise, I could use my remote starter and I'd still have to scrape the windshield and wait for it to defrost."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Only issue is seat is too high for tall drivers. Does not lower far enough"

SCOTT F., NY (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The one item I think should be corrected is the lack of illumination of the instrument panel during day time driving with the head light switch in AUTO. Under some lighting conditions the instruments are very hard to read the speedometer on cloudy rainy days sun in my eyes etc. Turning on the head lights will illuminate the instrument panel but I consider that an unsatisfactory solution for a top of the line vehicle. I think this issue could be considered a safety issue. I owned a 2007 Tundra L"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"It has a very stiff ride and I find it very uncomfortable"

TERESA D., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Huge back seat. Long time truck owners & backseats were always uncomfortable but not in a Tundra. Excellent towing capacity. We always had dually's for that but the Tundra is outstanding."

TONYA B., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Too many blind spots from drivers seat"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I ordered the SR package but in 2015 they only gave you half of the previous year’s options. No floor mounted gear shift, lower functioning overhead compartments and middle seatback compartments. For double the price you could get the original package. This was never explained and I felt tricked by Toyota and the deslership"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"I have never had a problem. I perform routine maintenance and that's pretty much it."

Anonymous, LA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Still going strong with only routine maintenance"

Marvin T., OK (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra is a good value, but next time I purchase a vehicle, I will look at two or three year old automobiles. The price I paid for this vehicle new was near $50k. I feel I paid too much, but it is difficult to find a used truck with low mileage."

David K., IL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The dealer price was extremely fair. The reliability of the Tundra in relation to the price I paid makes it a really great vehicle. A comparably equipped F150 would have been $10k more. This truck, although large, fits my needs in every way. It is stylish but also functional and the residual value is sensational. All of this makes the Tundra the best value on the market. We are Toyota people because of these reasons."

Summers J., TN (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"We bought it for towing, and it is great for towing. We would like better gas mileage, but we want towing capability more, and the transmission and power are just great for towing!"

Anonymous, CO (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Solid quality and assurance of reliability."

Sterling D., AL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"This vehicle only has 1 door that is keyed and no remote power locks. it is inconvenient to be on one side of the vehicle with no way to open the door other than walk around it."

Anonymous, NL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"The Toyota Tundra is a very quiet riding even though ours is a 4X4 with All Terrain Grip tires. We bought a 36' Travel Trailer which weighs over 10,000 pounds, and this truck tows this trailer like it is not even there!"

Joanne H., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Reliability, and quality is excellent"

Steve G., FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Best truck you can buy, period! Big 3 are only interested in building trucks that are more like cars. Some of us still use a truck as a truck and want it to drive like one! Great to see a manufacturer who builds something for us! Don't change the formula Toyota!"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"I have owned 3 Toyota's in the past 25 years the last one being a 2003 Matrix and I have noticed a definite decline in the overall quality of the vehicle. My 2015 Tundra is a great looking truck with plenty of power but i do not feel like it will last forever like my 1994 Toyota has. 280k miles and still going strong. Interior and Exterior still in like new condition, the 2015's Interior is already showing signs of wear."

CHRIS C., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Bought Toyota Certified Used Truck with 14K miles. I got a nail in a tire at 17K miles and the Toyota dealership refused to honor any tire warranties because tires were to worn out. I had to pay for a new set of tires after 3K miles of use."

JEFF D., FL (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"toyota makes a great product"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"Best truck for the money. Period."

GUY K., LA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"It is best vehicle we have ever purchased"

KEITH I., IA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"We purchased this from new car dealer with 3,000 miles on it. We paid way too much for it (10K too much) because of expensive aftermarket items prior owner had had dealer install. We did not do enough research on this vehicle before signing the deal. After getting home (before picking up the vehicle) we did some more research and wanted to back out of the deal. 15 hours later when we went to dealer to give them the down payment and trade in other vehicle, and they said there was NO grace perio"

MARGARET H., ID (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck is nothing like the trucks I knew years ago. In fact it is a very high priced car in a truck body. The down side is that carrying capacity is sacrificed for cab size. For example, I can carry my recumbent trike in the hatchback Prius fully open, but I have to fold it to carry it in the bed of the truck."

MARTIN B., CA (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"If I had to do it over I should have gotten the Ford F-150. Buyers remorse."

PAUL C., TX (2015 Toyota Tundra)

ALICIA C., MN (2015 Toyota Tundra)

"I receive many compliments on my truck. The color of the interior and exterior harmonize and the body styling completes the package."
