The current-generation Tundra bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Dramatically growing in size and losing much of the refinement of the previous smaller-scale model, the Tundra has so far failed to make inroads into the Detroit-dominated segment.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Good acceleration and handling. Easy to park due to shorter turning radius. Getting better mpg than listed on window sticker."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Poor acceleration, truck feels heavy and steering is loose. I’m waiting on getting a new map to install on my truck."

Alexis L., TX (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Has the power was looking for and great acceleration with a nice firm ride."

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"excellent acceleration, tows large loads effortlessly, sharp turning radius makes parking easy. stable in the winter with snow tires"

Anonymous, AK (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"- handles very well for a big truck - back up camera is a joy - lane departure warning is a must"

Brian S., BC (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Solid"

Tina L., VA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Surprisingly nimble in parking lots for a big truck. Good vision out the windshield when parking compared to GM. I don't accelerate hard due to gas consumption but truck has gobs of power."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"taut suspension; engine very smooth and strong"

Michael B., GA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I am impressed with the TRD package: great handling and quick acceleration!"

Anonymous, MN (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Nice ride for a truck. Great safety features. Poor fuel economy"

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Great pickup and response. Easy to maneuver. Love the lane departure alert."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Push gas and it responds quickly"

Anonymous, AL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Consumer Reports has stated in the past that the Tundra is not keeping up with the competition. I disagree. The Tundra seems on par with the F150 in style, riding comfort and handling. I have owned two F150’s and a F250. All had electrical problems. This is why I bought a Toyota, for greater reliability. Won’t buy a Ford product again."

R O., FL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles well for a full size truck with the Sport Package and TRD sway bars. Even though the engine and drivetrain are old by today's standards, the Tundra accelerates rather quickly, tows well, and transmission shifts smoothly."

Danny N., UT (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"both handling and acceleration are very good"

Kevin M., MA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Tight suspension is very sturdy. Powerful acceleration when needed and smooth driving."

Gregory D., IN (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Rides, handles and accelerates very well. smooth over the roads and off the roads."

Rick B., CA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra throttle response is extremely smooth and it accelerates faster than any stock truck I have ever owned or ridden in. It corners so well that you can take windy roads well above the speed limit."

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Compared to my last truck, 2014 Ram, it doesn't ride or handle as well. It is a much older design."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Handling is poor compared to other trucks. The steering is very light and unpredictable in windy conditions. Worse when pulling a trailer. It is marketed as a towing vehicle but it falls way short."

Ron J., ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Pulls our 30 foot trailer with no problem. Acceleration and braking is great towing or not. Only issue with driving is numerous blind spots because of outside mirrors and back seat headrests."

Jason-Jenn O., CA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Stability control and ability to pull a trailer are both first class"

Don H., AB (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"We had a 2015 Tundra prior to this 2018 model and by comparison the new one feels very slow and sluggish. I can only think they must have retuned the transmission in some way. This was disappointing and makes the truck feel under powered in many circumstances."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Has a lot of power."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The power is amazing, when you need it it’s there for you"

Terry J., ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Great acceleration. Handles well. It IS a TRUCK so it won't handle like your family sedan."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I'm really happy with this truck. Smooth ride and fast exceleration. Great handling. My last truck was a 2001 Ford f350 pickup. It was a tank. It held up really well. New technology is really amazing."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seats and ride are very comfortable and the noise level is low."

Dan C., OH (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are power adjustable and seem to hold you in place very well"

Terry J., ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"seats are a little bit big for smaller drivers"

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Driving or riding in the Tundra feels like you are in a luxury car, the seats are very comfortable and the truck is so quiet that it is very easy to find yourself traveling well above the speed limit. The ride is very comfortable yet firm enough that you sort of know that you are in a truck."

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"comfortable, quiet, powerful, smooth"

Anonymous, AK (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The ride is a bit bouncy."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The front seats are comfortable. Road noise is overall good, enabling conversation without raising voices. The ride is somewhat bumpy, better than the Silverado that I test-drove but not as good as my prior RAM. I chose the Tundra based on CRs predicted reliability and Toyota's standard safety features that are optional on other trucks."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Had after marke leather added and they are very comfortable."

Robert B., TX (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"1794 Edition interior most room and finest interior finish ever had in a pickup in 60 years of driving. Least bounce over speed bumps and smoother ride than in long Cadillac ESV."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seats"

Anonymous, TN (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable and supportive seats. Very solid ride and good handling. Reasonably quiet for a truck."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats and overall comfort are excellent. However, the road and engine noise are louder than I expected."

Todd C., TX (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are excellent.Ride is too stiff"

Don H., AB (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Quite comfortable considering it is a TRUCK"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"brakes and shocks seem soft and mushy. more like my moms old caddy than a truck."

Anonymous, ND (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The ECM was retailing when I first got the truck. My Toyota dealer had it for a week or so trying to figure out the issue and get it fixed and they did. The interior material is mostly hard and I feel for the limited package it should have better materials cooled seat and memory seats. Other than those little things I would not buy any other truck ever again."

Michael H., PA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"It is very loud because the transmission shifts to 4th, review the engine to 3800 rpm at highway speeds on almost every hill."

Ron J., ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seats and nice, smooth ride. Does not feel like a truck."

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"The exhaust droned significantly at 1200-1900 rpm. Unfortunately, this is the most common driving rpm for day to day driving. It was annoying enough that I sold the Tundra after only owing it for a few months. The drone was not a nice V8 burble note. It was low frequency, constant, vibrational and annoying. I towed once for a 1.5 hr trip and I had to put in ear plugs. Sold the Tundra not long after. Bed bounce over bumps was noticeable due to the open C-channel frame, but not horrible."

Jeffrey H., MD (2018 Toyota Tundra)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Although I good have gotten a larger discount from Dodge or Chevrolet, I would have had to purchase a vehicle with a much higher sticker price to get the advanced safety features that were standard with the Toyota. Also, the model that I purchased was a demo with about 4500 miles on it. I was able to negotiate a somewhat better price on this vehicle."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Worth the value compared to the cost of the other trucks."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"If you are going to keep a vehicle for more than 3 years and expect it to work when you get in there is no better truck than the tundra."

Michael H., PA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I am generally satisfied with the Tundra but for the price one would generally expect a higher level of sophistication. It is a very very basic truck with very little advanced technology. The backup camera is poor quality and poor resolution, the engine doesn't even take advantage of some very simple technologies to improve fuel efficiency such as cylinder deactivation etc. It's very basic compared to other vehicles in its class and price point."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Many of the safety features were standard. I'm big on safety. The Ford f150 was less vehicle for more money."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Front directional (turn signals) lights visibility is poor. Low intensity light is difficult to see by other drivers. Outside mirrors lack turn signals."

Anonymous, NH (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I think it's a great truck but very expensive"

Anonymous, NH (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Toyota is a good brand"

Anonymous, BC (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"- very good value - toyotas are very relable"

Brian S., BC (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"drives and accelerates perfectly; engine very powerful and smooth; transmission shifts so smoothly one cannot even trill when it's shifting"

Michael B., GA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I was asked what I considered a fair price & they cam in $900 more"

Philip R., MA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"When I compared the same options on chevy, ford & dodge the pricing was much better on the toyota."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"By far offer the lowest monthly payment of the 4 major full size trucks with the same equipment for a 3 year lease."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Bought with TRD off road pkg. Was better value given the Toyota reliability and re-sale, when compared to Ford and GM. Paid cash and got good trade in value for my 2012 Tundra. Dealer also let me keep my running boards, snow tires, and tonneau cover. They installed all on new truck free of charge."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"This was a very expensive truck and I am disappointed that the budget model Corolla I bought had temperature climate control and my expensive truck doesn't. Not only that I am getting software glitches now after 6K miles that need attention. Warning lights and whistles that are for no reason at all."

Frank M., MA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent value."

Michael H., VA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"High quality product for less money than competitors"

Tina L., VA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Retains its value much better over years of ownership. Dependability is good so less will be spent in repairs over the years of ownership."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"This is my 3rd tundra 415k on one and 300k on the other. Routine maintence is all that has been done on either. Plus the resale value is strong"

Dion B., TN (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"I received all of the features I wanted at a very good price."

Anonymous, LA (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Only good things to say about the Tundra. Love the way it drives and looks, inside and out. Opps, one thing kind of negative ... it's so big it's hard to park in a normal/regular parking lot."

Anonymous, UT (2018 Toyota Tundra)

"Higher resale value and great reliability!"

Anonymous, MN (2018 Toyota Tundra)
