If you’re in the market for small kitchen appliances, like air fryers and blenders, trusty Dutch ovens, and other kitchen tools, you’ve come to the right place. We keep tabs on everything we test all year long, and there are some good prices right now. There are a few good sales right now, as Labor Day sales are starting to roll in. We’re also still seeing some back-to-school sales featuring things families and college students might bneed around the home.

A good deal is about more than just the price, so we also look at the item’s quality based on how it performs in our lab tests and at-home evaluations. Everything on this list isn’t only going to be easy on your wallet, but it’s also going to be a great addition to your kitchen and last a long time to come.

Air Fryers

The Instant Vortex Slim air fryer, which typically sells for $120, is at a new low price thanks to this on-page coupon. It’s an all-around strong performer, with intuitive controls and quiet operation, and we found it pretty easy to clean, too. At 11 inches in width and 12 inches in height, it won’t be overly obtrusive on your countertop, though it is fairly deep (18 inches). It has a measured capacity of 4.9 quarts, five cooking modes (air fry, broil, bake, roast, and reheat), and one-touch programs to cook a range of foods, including wings, vegetables, potatoes, cookies, and more. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

Still undecided?
CR's expert guidance and unbiased reviews can help you purchase with confidence.

The Cuisinart AIR-200 air fryer features a digital display, a viewing window, and a shake reminder to ensure your food is evenly crispy. It can roast, bake, broil, and keep your food warm, plus it’s dishwasher safe. We did see this air fryer at a lower price this past Black Friday, but it’s still a good deal right now.

The Ninja Foodi DZ550 is a large air fryer fit for a crowd. It has two separate baskets for cooking two different foods at the same time, and we measured its capacity at 7.4 quarts. It earns impressive scores in our lab tests for its controls, convenience, and cleaning, but it may be on the noisy side. And it weighs a hefty 19 pounds, so you may want to leave this air fryer on the counter. At about 30 percent off, this is a great buy if you need a large air fryer for your household.

Dash may not have the same name recognition as Ninja or Cuisinart, but the 2.6-quart Dash Tasti-Crisp Ceramic DCAF26CM air fryer earns solid scores in CR’s tests and comes at a sale price that’s better than we’ve seen so far for this model. With food contact surfaces made of nonstick ceramic, it earns top marks for ease of cleaning even though it’s not dishwasher safe. We found it runs more quietly than many other air fryer models to boot. The DCAF26CM has a small footprint, making it a smart choice for a dorm room or for those with limited counter space.

Coffee Makers

KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

We found the KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine was impressively well-built, especially given its budget-friendly price. It may take some getting used to for beginners, but we found that it produced reliably good espresso shots. This model comes with numerous accessories, including a milk jug for steaming (the only model we evaluated that offered this).

With its built-in milk frother, the Nespresso CitiZ EN267BAE takes single-serve coffee to the next level. It’s great for hosting events, considering it aced CR’s tests for speed and size consistency. The brand’s single-serve coffee makers also get top marks for owner satisfaction and near-top-level marks for reliability in our member surveys. This machine requires a bit more maintenance due to the milk frother, but if you love your morning latte, it’s a quick and easy way to get your fix

The Keurig K-Supreme is back down to the same low we saw for Prime Day. It’s a top performer when it comes to first-cup speed, size consistency, and convenience. It also delivers subsequent cups quickly after the first, important if you plan to serve multiple cups. Its settings let you easily adjust the brew’s strength. Like many K-Cup machines, this coffee maker’s features include auto-shutoff, a removable reservoir, and a height-adjustable drip tray.

Toasters

The Cuisinart CPT-520 2-Slice toaster is on final sale at Macy’s, dropping $15 in price in recent weeks. It allows you to customize your toast by selecting a specific type, such as white bread, pastry, whole wheat, waffle, or English muffin, for a toast job optimized for that specific texture. The Cuisinart CPT-415 Countdown Metal 2-Slice and the similar Cuisinart CPT-435 Countdown Metal 4-Slice are also high scorers. They ace our lab tests for color range and excel in our full-batch and toasting time tests. All three models feature a bagel setting that allows you to toast one side of the bagel more than the other, resulting in a crispy bite on one side and a nice chew on the other. On the four-slice Cuisinart model, there’s one set of controls for two slices on one side and a separate set of controls for two slices on the other. Our testers found these machines easy to use, and each comes with a three-year warranty.

The Cuisinart CPT-122 Compact Plastic two-slice toaster delivers an overall solid performance and comes with cord storage, as well as defrost and reheat settings—features you don’t always see on budget-friendly models. It turns out perfectly browned toast in both our full batch and one-slice tests, and does so rather quickly. You can also expect cleaning to be fairly easy.

Of all the toaster ovens in CR’s tests, the Hamilton Beach 31156 performs better at our toasting tests than many, plus it does a solid job at baking. The only area where it delivers a so-so performance is in reheating. It does have a novel design: a bread slot for toasting, like you’d find on a dedicated toaster, with a low oven cavity underneath. This simple model is best suited for people who would use the oven in a limited capacity. At less than $100 on sale, it’s a steal, especially for toast lovers.

Blenders

The Ninja Professional Plus Kitchen System BN801 may be noisy—most blenders are—but if you operate in short bursts, you may not mind considering how well it performs in our icy drink, puree, and ice crush tests. It’s also one of the most durable we’ve tested. If you don’t have a Vitamix-caliber budget, this blender could be the perfect option for you, especially at this price.

The Ninja BL770 plays two roles: as a full-sized blender, and as a personal blender with an internal spinner and cup that’s meant for small batches. It’s a very good performer either way, handily crushing ice and capably preparing smoothies and other icy beverages. It’s also very convenient—though more so when using the full-sized blending jar. In puréeing, the personal-blender version is the star, though the full-sized version still purées very well. The Ninja BL770 is noisy, however, especially when using the full-sized jar. Predicted reliability and owner satisfaction are impressive for both versions.

The Ninja TWISTi High Speed Duo’s intelligent programs and five push-button functions eliminate guesswork while blending or pulsing soups, smoothies, frozen drinks, spreads, and more. The 1600-watt power blender has hybrid-edge chopping and crushing blades, a built-in twist tamper, and a removable drizzle cap that allows ingredients and ice cubes to be added while processing. If you like hearty soups and tasty smoothies, this slightly noisy blender might be for you.

Food Processors

Judging from its name, Ninja probably wants you to know that the Ninja Foodi Ultimate System SS401 is more than a standard food processor. In addition to a reversible shredding and slicing blade, this high-scoring model comes with a dough blade for kneading cookie or bread dough and a two-cup smoothie maker. As a food processor, we find this Ninja to be exceptionally quiet and great at tasks like chopping, shredding, slicing, and grating. This model has a 9-cup capacity. It was $30 less during Prime Day, but this is still a hefty discount.

Multi-Cookers

The 6-quart 1,350-watt DeLonghi Livenza is another multi-cooker without a pressure-cook function, so fast cooking isn’t its promise. But its slow-cooking mode is top-notch, with the model earning a strong rating in that test. It also earns top-notch scores for sautéing and steaming, both tests that few models ace.

This cooker has a baking function, too, which we tested with mixed results. Our chocolate chip bars were nice and chewy on top but burnt on the bottom around the corners of the pot. Like the Cuisinart above, this cooker’s oblong shape is useful for bulky roasts and racks of ribs.

Salad Spinners

Farberware Pro Pump Spinner, 6.6 Qt

Farberware Pro Pump Spinner, 6.6 Qt

If you want to ensure your greens are completely dry before tossing with your vinaigrette, then this model is for you. It removed 100 percent of the water added to our spring mix—the only model in our tests to do so—meaning not a drop of water will dilute your potent salad dressing. It’s also good to use when you ambitiously purchase a lot of veggies. It has the largest capacity (257 grams) of all the models we tested. It’s among the larger spinners, so if counter space or storage space is limited, you might want to pass on this model. The pump at the top, which you press a few times to force the spinning action, can be locked down flat, making storage a little easier. This spinner requires only one hand to operate and has no drain hole.

Oxo Stainless Steel Salad Spinner, 6.34 Qt

Oxo Stainless Steel Salad Spinner, 6.34 Qt

Oxo makes so many good kitchen utensils that it’s no surprise that this big spinner was among the top performers. It removed 97.7 percent of the water from our greens, making it the second best performer for drying behind the Farberware, above. This Oxo model can accommodate a max of 200.32 grams of dry salad mix, again, second to the winner. It’s the only stainless steel model we tested, so if you’re trying to cut down on your plastic purchases, this could be a good model for you.

Soda Makers

Ninja Thirsti Drink System and Soda Machine

Ninja Thirsti Drink System and Soda Machine

This brilliant machine wins our praise not only because it makes reliably sparkly water that lasts (not a feat every machine accomplished in our tests) but also because it is exceedingly easy to use—despite how customizable it is. You fill the water reservoir with water and ice, place a cup beneath the dispenser, and then choose how much seltzer you want and how bubbly you want it before pressing “Start.” We also like that the machine’s three bubbliness settings take the guesswork out of making seltzer if you have a particular level of carbonation in mind.

Food Storage

CR’s engineers find that the Rubbermaid Brilliance 18pc Glass Food Storage Container Set of nine lidded glass containers performs admirably in our tests for durability, seal quality, and ease of use. (The pieces range in size from three snack-appropriate 10-ounce boxes to a 64-ounce pack for lots of leftovers.) The rubber gaskets aren’t removable, though, so it may be a little tougher to clean than other sets. However, the containers are dishwasher-safe, freezer-safe, microwave-safe, and oven-safe (not including the lid).

Kitchen Tools

Zulay Kitchen Rotary Cheese Grater

Zulay Kitchen Rotary Cheese Grater

The Zulay Kitchen Rotary Cheese Grater may not be "on sale" in this color, but it is at least $5 less than in any other color. It is a versatile and user-friendly tool with five interchangeable blades that are perfect for grating cheese, though the brand says it can also be used on nuts and some veggies. Left-handed users can even easily turn the gadget for seamless operation.

This was the only grater with extra surfaces and a handy container to store them. It is a bulky device overall—it stands at 11.25 inches tall, so it won’t fit into most drawers—and is meant to fit in a cabinet or sit on the counter.

The Meater+ meat thermometer is one of the most reliable digital thermometers. It’s easy to use, and given its top-notch accuracy, you won’t need guesswork to determine the doneness of brisket and other fleshy delights. It’s shaped like a thick ink pen with dual sensors—one for internal temperature and one for ambient temperature—and its size makes it better suited to girthier cuts. The Meater+ transmits temperature readings wirelessly to the companion smartphone app.
