What Owners Say
"mds, multiple driver syndrome, told to use different setting (sport, etc.) for second driver. car actually stopped in mountain driving and would not move. after an hour or so the transmission cooled down and we were able to drive on. the service light remained on through three start cycles. the dealers analysis was mds, no damage, no solution other than to try another transmission setting when a second driver uses vehicle."
Anonymous, MD (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"While the transmission's computer has had about 5 software updates, it still shifts in a rough fashion particularly at low speed in gears 1,2,&3. Transmission often lurches forward when coasting to stop, or in a clunky fashion shifts up or down abruptly. One would not want to use this vehicle and transmission in a bank robbery where a quick get-away was needed."
Ronald M., NM (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"Shifting from 4th to 5th gear the transmission slams"
Anonymous, NC (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"when you accelerate from a stop into traffic the car hesitates and when it does move it accelerates excessively."
Roderick W., NY (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"Just not a well sorted transmission (very well knowen). 9 speed that NEVER uses 8 or 9. Rough shifting and hunting for the right gear for the situation. Various software updates has improved it some."
Dave S., SK (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"I will have the car in reverse to back out of some place. I will shift the car to first, but it won't engage. I'm literally sitting in traffic and the car won't move. I have to floor the accelerator and then the car will suddenly lurch forward. Although the car is an automatic, it reminds me of my former stick-shift cars, as it feels like the transmission won't engage first gear"
Anonymous, NE (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Bangs into gear at time or hesitates to go into gear"
Anonymous, NY (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"It would slam into gear"
Anonymous, AZ (2015 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Transmission shifting is very jerky. Have taken it in and was told it was functioning as designed. When at a complete stop and accelerating transition is very jumpy and rough"
R M., TX (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Vehicle occasionally jerks violently when accelerating from a stopped position. The dealer adjusts the software. It stops for a while then comes back"
Chris W., CA (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"Never fully repaired. Problem exists since soon after purchase. Service department adjusts to a different problem. But never correct"
Anonymous, MA (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Transmission shifts in a rough, clunky fashion particularly in gears 1-4. It feels like a 3-speed auto transmission of the 1950's instead of the 9-speed computerized transmission that it actually is. Chrysler has provided 5 or more software updates, but none have really corrected the basic problem"
Ronald M., NM (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"Transmission is not right for the car"
Anonymous, RI (2015 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Doesn't downshift into first quickly enough, then lurches. Jeep is unable to fix the problem"
Anonymous, CO (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Transmission light came on when shifting across the 2 different clutches in the right circumstances"
Anonymous, GA (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"The shifting was smooth when I bought the vehicle but after approx 2,000 the shifting became very abrupt almost overnight"
Anonymous, CA (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Dealer said car would "learn" driving habits however it would shift at strange times. Wife said car was "possessed""
Anonymous, WI (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"SOFTWARE UPDATES HAVE NOT TOTALLY RESOLVED THE ROUGH SHIFTING"
Anonymous, NE (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"delay in shifting down when coming to stop, causing no power when trying to accelerate from stop, delay in shifting when trying to accelerate"
Matthew L., CO (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"car seems to shift gears too often"
Anonymous, FL (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"We've talked to dealers across the country, when we get oil changes, they supposedly fixed the problem but it is still there, no one seems to know how to fix it. This is an automatic, and when moving from a stop, all the sudden (without any warning) the transmission makes a loud clunking sound as if the darn transmission dropped out! It's scary as we don't know why it does that and more frustrated that the dealer's service departments don't know or can't fix. There was a warranty repair "fix" for this problem, so Chrysler/Jeep knows of the issue. The one time we did have this "fixed" only to have it happen again and again afterward, with no success from Jeep."
Anonymous, NV (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"The transmission has an intermittent shifting "clonk" between 25 and 40. Also, in down shift mode. Dealer has been unable to duplicate problem. Still have mileage and time on warranty, so the dealer keep driving to see what happens."
Anonymous, CT (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"It jerks HARD at 42mph on an incline. No one seems to be able to fix it. It started after we had to have an under warranty replacement of the wiring harness in 2017."
Anonymous, (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"Has been in 7 times they are unable to fix"
Shane B., OR (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"The 1st year the transmission was great. Shifted smooth and quick. Then at the one year mark, during a state (MA) inspection at the dealer, they flashed / reprogramed the transmission. b/c so many transmissions were failing. to protect a 2nd gear dog clutch? Ever since the transmission hangs up in third gear during deceleration even as slow as 1-3 mph. it will not down shift. Press and hold the accelerator to the floor because your about to be hit by a car T-boned or rear ended and if lucky it will slam into a lower gear ( BANG ) and get you out of the way. I've brought it right back to the dealer to have it looked at, and also at every service apt since and I inform them how bad the transmission is. Every time I'm told it is operating as designed... Very dangerous, I won't let anyone else drive the car. If you come to a yield or roundabout, Even though there is lots of room to merge in, The jeep lags so badly in 3rd gear and moves so slowly I'm either almost rear ended by the car behind or in a crash with the merging cars. Even worse crossing intersections. Unsafe. Before they flashed / reprogramed the transmission it was a great driving car. Now its the worst driving vehicle I've ever owned. This is a very common problem with the 2014 and 2015 model years. Hoping / praying for Jeep to step up andr resolve this ongoing very common problem"
Scott F., MA (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"It will not shift into the lower gear, hard thuds when slowing down, revs up when coming to a stop, slams into different gear if coasting through a yield sign or stop sign."
Anonymous, (2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2-L V6)"Transmission has always been a problem, bad enough Jeep has replaced the transmission. Shifting, usual a very noticeable hard shift slowing down or accelation from a stopped position. Adjustments are made, seems better but returns within a few weeks of driving. I don't get used to it, just tolerate it any finally back to the dealership. Should go back more often I quess, but they obviously can't fix it so I just hope for a total breakdown. I know they might have to replace the transmission again if that happens, but it's their expense because I bought the ultimate extended warranty. I also know replacement won't fix the problem, It's just a bad sitiuation. Soo I am stuck until I trade it off and some new driver gets stuck with it."
Donald K., AZ (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Rough shifting during early acceleration and with the need to let off of the accelerator due to traffic conditions slowing. Same rough shifting in early acceleration up inclines."
Len D., FL (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"Vehicle surges at times while at slow speed. Also, it hesitates going up an incline while going at a slow speed."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"After several computer flashes of the TCM and PCM, the Jeep still has shifting problems when doing a slow rolling stop. It rarely shifts into 1st and that can leave you in 2nd causing an hesitation when trying to pull into busy traffic. Also I have never seen the transmission shift into 9th gear even at high speeds."

Problem was erratic and didn't happen all the time. Returned to dealer and result was replace transmission. Still waiting. Shifting erratic"
Anonymous, FL (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2-L V6)"The 9 speed auto transmission consistently has rough shifting in gears 1-4. It often abruptly clunks into another gear, occasional leaving you powerless For a split second. It also has a second or 2 delay when changing from "D" to "R" or vice versa. It is not a good vehicle to be used for a bank robbery with its hesitant and uncertain shifting!!!"

Anonymous, CO (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2-L V6)"This jeep has had shifting issues from the first week. It has been in the service department 5 times in the first year for the same problem and not ever fixed. The transmission shifts erratically in 1-3 gears. Sometimes not moving when accelerating from a stop. Never shifts smoothly and the severity varies leaving me unsure how to navigate into traffic. It shifted into neutral once while driving 45 mph. This car is unsafe. Once 40 mph is achieved it is a smooth ride. I have a lemon law lawsuit"

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Jeep has a computer controlled 9 speed trans. It has been at the dealers for last 3 weeks. They have not been able to fix it. Auto tech exceeds dealers ability to diagnose and repair"
