Darryl C., WI (2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4-L V8)

"The rusting problem should have been a recall. It is excessive, despite maintenance and care. At only a few years old, the full spare was completely rusted, despite never having been used. It will cause the truck to lose integrity and that is unfortunately unstoppable."

Anonymous, (2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4-L V8)

"Started recently at about 40000 miles. Pulsating brakes, usually at the first or second brake application on a trip. Does not happen all the time so I drive it conservatively just in case it increases stopping distance."

Anonymous, (2004 Ford F-150 XL 5.4-L V8)

Anonymous, AL (2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4-L V8)

"I was hearing noise in rear of truck and it turned out the rotors which were installed at the last brake service by Ford dealership were warped. Current dealer turned the rotors but basically had to get them below specs to allow me to drive car. Rotors should not warp this bad."

Anonymous, NL (2004 Ford F-150 XLT 5.4-L V8)

"Started gradually. Cooling declined. Replaced one switch and it started working again. The compressor started making a crunching sound and discovered on tear down that it had failed and contaminated the entire system. Replaced everything but evaporator which I flushed. Used aftermarket parts because OEM Ford parts way too expensive. Two days to replace everything. Works fine."

Anonymous, TX (2004 Ford F-150 XLT 4.5-L V8)

"Living in South Florida I use the AC almost every time I drive it. I noticed that the AC didn't seem to be operating as well as it had in the past. I took it to an AC shop and the put some additional refrigerant in it and told me it would last only a short time. Two months later it stopped cooling. I had the compressor replaced and it now works like new. I have had the replacement for 6-month as of this writing."

Anonymous, VA (2004 Ford F-150 XL 4.5-L V8)

"For years this truck did a better than average job of cooling the cab of my truck. My dachshund loved it. Last year this changed. It no longer cools like it did in spite of the fact I've had it in the shop twice for this."

Carl B., MO (2004 Ford F-150 XLT 5.4-L V8)

"Unit still cools very well, however the fan will not turn off until the ignition is turned off. Also Ford does not have a replacement unit because of the truck's age. Also, there is no component maintenance, the dealers just remove and replace and the owner is left hanging. I am sure this applies to all automobile companies. Other wise I am very pleased with this vehicle."

Anonymous, TN (2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4-L V8)

"V8 and there is a coil on each spark plug, and after 100000 miles each one goes out at some point which I thing is a bunch of bull. 300 dollars per coil. Ford ought to be able to do better than that."

"Due to design it is a major undertaking to change plugs not to mention unreasonable coast. Ford should really be ashamed. This is NOT the only area Fords designs, wether intention or not, greatly increases coast and limits choice of service providers. Not the Automotive stability and value that Ford once was"

William C., CO (2004 Ford F-150 XLT 5.4-L V8)
Slipping transmission

"The transmission has slipped since the vehicle was new. Even the mechanics at the dealer said everything was 'within spec' (honestly, tired of hearing that phrase. Don't care what the specs are, if it's not working properly, maybe the specs are incorrect?). I can recreate the issue at will. Typically the transmission will slip if I slow down to approximately 5 mph, then accelerate. This can be better understood if you imagine coming up to a stop light, and you are almost stopped, and the light turns green. Naturally, you immediately hit the gas. Boom, slippage. I've had the transmission checked by specialists, I've had the rear end gear oil replaced with high performance oil, as there was some issue with that as well. All in all, the drivetrain seems to have some issues. If you go on to some of the Ford boards online, there are a TON of people with the same issues. Yet Ford does nothing about it. Love my Ford trucks, but come on."

Scott L., OH (2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4-L V8)

"At cruising speed in overdrive the truck hesitates or misses during slight load, ie, trying to maintain speed while traversing a small hill on the highway. It does not trigger the check engine light. Also, it was often not going into overdrive but would stay in 3rd. When this occurred the cruise control did not work. One year ago the dealership did a transmission computer update that fixed the issue but recently it has returned."
