    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Antilock braking system (ABS)

"I had Check Brake System and Check Advance Tracking System warning and alarms with ABS and Anti-Tracking warning lights coming on. This first started about a year ago. I had a Ford dealer and an independent mechanic ran diagnostics on it and they both said it is a faulty ABS Control Module. This ABS module cost about $2000 and the dealer wanted $3000 to fix it while the independent mechanic said it would be $2500. The brakes work fine. Ive have no problem with them. Both mechanics said that the ABS system might be affected but the hydraulics of the system will work just like my 1965 F250 truck brakes. I continue to drive it occasionally with no issues. The warning came on for about 8 months and then stopped for about 3 months. They just recently came back on. I was told by both mechanics that this is a common problem in this truck model. Seems that this should be a recall issue. (Side note: I could buy the ABS module from the dealer's part counter and walk it over to the repair department and save about $500 on the part over what the repair department would charge me for the same part)."

    Anonymous, MI (2012 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

    Anonymous A., IN (2012 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)
    Pulsation or vibration

"Breaking at speeds greater than 50 mph started pulsing and vibrating. This is within 18 months of prior pad replacement and less than 10000 miles. Replacing rotors and pads and $2000 of my dollars seems to have worked although there is still a light squeak when braking."

    Electrical failure

""Truck would crank but not turn over, started intermittently, but eventually would not start. Towed to shop, they could not figure it out. I googled the problem for the make and model, found its common, they suggest replacing fuse #17 (I think), husband pulled it, slightly discolored, replaced it, truck has been starting for the last 6 weeks. Ford offers a replacement kit for this problem if it occurs again. Side note, husband did not believe it could be fixed that easily and attempted to get the truck into other shops, long wait. Eventually he kept quiet. Weird.""

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

""I had the first transmission fluid change at 96,000 miles, which is earlier than the 150,000 intervals Ford recommends. I chose the pan drop and filter method. After approximately 5000 miles the torque converter lockup failed to operate properly, causing decreased power and lower mpg. Repeated automatic transmission fluid replacement, this time using the pump method to completely replace fluid and hopefully flush any gunk that might be obstructing a passage that was causing the malfunction. This resulted in the torque converter operating normally again. Although Ford recommends the first automatic transmission fluid replacement to occur at 150,000 miles, many mechanics recommend intervals of 40,000 miles to prevent sludge buildup and issues like what I experienced. I believe that the mechanics recommendations are correct, and will adjust my maintenance schedule accordingly.""

    Anonymous A., MO (2012 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)
    Slipping transmission

""Within first 5 years of ownership the transmission occasionally and not repeatedly a hard down shift into 1st gear. About year 6 of ownership and after it was paid off, the transmission would slip going from 3rd to 4th gear, and has continued through my ownership of the vehicle (year 13). When taken into the dealer, they replaced rods (not transmission) which obviously didn't fix the problem. They said I could pay another $4500 to take a stab at repairing, or try to baby it, which I have done and with a spark plug change has run pretty well to this point.""

    Anonymous A., TX (2012 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission leaks

"The transmission lines crimp fittings failed. had to replace both lines from the transmission to the cooler at the front of the truck."
