With the launch of the redesigned F-150, Ford broke all of the rules for pickup trucks. From its much-touted aluminum construction -- shaving about 700 pounds from the old model -- to available small-displacement twin-turbo V6 engines promising the power of a V8 but with better fuel economy, Ford has shaken things up in a category not known for innovation. It has bet the farm on the biggest-selling vehicle in America.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2017 Ford F-150 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

“Alignment issues with door closing”

Patricia N., FL (2017 Ford F-150 XL 3.5-L V6)

“Drivers door does not fit correctly. Dealer adjusted door & now you have to "slam" the door to get it to latch completely. Either the door or the cab opening is out-of-spec. FORD has ignored a request (complete with pictures) for evaluation made by the dealer. I'm not happy”

Stanley N., MI (2017 Ford F-150 XL 2.7-L V6 turbo)

“all 4 doors leak road water up inside them. contacted dealer who was clueless. contacted ford customer service and after a long wait they said there is no problem and ended complaint. the seals at the bottom are very flimsy and do not seal. am totally dissatisfied with ford customer service and told them they should be ashamed to sell a product like this”

Joe V., WV (2017 Ford F-150 Lariat 2.7-L V6 turbo)
Locks and latches

“Lock on passenger door was broken when vehicle was received”

Anonymous, VA (2017 Ford F-150 XL 3.5-L V6)

What Owners Say

“In 2017 Ford does not support USB 3 which came out in 2009. Attempting to use a USB 3 device generates a excessive power usage. USB 2 no problem”

Anonymous, TX (2017 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

“You cannot use your current location to set a Fovourite. You must have and address, intersection, or city. Farm and ranch trucks are often in places where there are no addresses. If TomTom and Garmin can do it, Ford can do it”

John W., AB (2017 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)
