Whether it’s for holding groceries or carting the kids to weekend activities, cargo room is a key shopping consideration for many consumers. But manufacturer claims don’t always reflect real-world utility. Our tests show that the vehicles below have the most room in their respective categories. Click on the model names to visit their model pages, where you’ll find road tests, reliability ratings, pricing, and much more.

Learn how Consumer Reports tests vehicles at our 327-acre auto test track in Connecticut.

Cargo Space in SUVs, Minivans, and Wagons

We measure it by determining the volume of an expandable pipe-frame box that we fit through the rear opening and extend into the cargo bay as far as possible (with the second- and third-row seats folded down), making sure the hatch can still be closed. Vehicles are ranked from most to least volume within the category. (See our SUV and minivan/3-row SUV buying guides.)

    Trunk Capacity

We measure trunk capacity by seeing how many suitcases and duffel bags a trunk can accommodate. Vehicles are ranked from most to least luggage capacity within the category.
