The F-350 is a heavy-duty truck with a 1-ton capacity as opposed to the 1/2 ton of the F-150. The Super Duty line was redesigned for 2015 with new exterior and revised engines. The ride is stiff and bouncy, especially compared to the F-150. Ford's 6.0-liter turbodiesel packs some real punch and is fairly quiet and free of vibration. Stepping into the cabin is more difficult because of the high floor.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"All same problem. When choosing nav destination from "Favorites", screen freezes for up up to a minute after swiping down the 1st time. Entire Sync3 control unresponsive for duration."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Back up camera remains on for several minutes after shifting the truck from reverse to drive."

Anonymous, CT (2017 Ford F-350 FX4 6.7-L V8 diesel)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Antenna and/or cable failed an had to be replaced"

Anonymous, GA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Same as last explanation"

Anonymous, MD (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Antenna fault error and cable was replaced"

Anonymous, GA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Navigation system, despite having the software updated, continues to provide navigational routes that are not the fastest/shortest (dependent upon how I have set it)."

Anonymous, CT (2017 Ford F-350 FX4 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Randomly doesn't sync with phone. Must discard and re pair with phone again."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Software update fixes

"Was know by Ford that Sync had software failure at 3.0 update that Ford could not fix for almost 2 years. System would default to AM band when restarted after beind on any other option like FM Sirus,Adroid Auto."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"Well documented death wobble has occurred twice since I've owned the vehicle. I have filed complaint on NHTSA site."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Fortunately Ford acknowledged the death wobble and replaced the drag link, tightend up loose tie rods, etc."

Tom K., CO (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Steering wheel vibration

"Everyone that has had a Super-duty in the last few years has heard of the "death wobble". My truck only does it 2-3 times a year and the dealers don't do anything about it. It can be a bit of a shock the first time it happens to you, but you learn to deal with it. Only problem I've had with the truck."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Over time a vibration from rough roads was being transmitted to the steering wheel, I hadn't realized how much until I had the truck repaired. The ultimate reason I had the truck repaired was because it had gotten to the point that when I drove over parts of the road that exhibited a wash board affect, the front wheels would begin to bounce in a uncontrolled oscillating fashion. I would have to slow down quickly to regain control of the steering. The term for the malfunction is "The death wobble." Ford repaired the front end under warranty and that is when I discovered how much steering wheel vibration I had become accustomed too without realizing it."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Encountered the infamous death wobble. Very unsafe condition while towing a 5th wheel trailer."

Tom K., CO (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Same as last answer"

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Seals and/or weather-stripping

"During certain wind/driving conditions, the driverside door has a elevated wind noise."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Squeaks or rattles

"Something in the door resonated at certain frequencies when listening to music. Dealer fixed for free."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Lots of door rattles and squeaks. Had to be adjusted twice by dealer. Had the vehicle 2 weeks. Wind noise at freeway speed still working on."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Wind noise

"At highway speeds, I would hear wind noise that was associated with the driver's side mirror."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"I get a whistle from somewhere in the front of the vehicle at freeway speed."

James L., WA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

"Back doors froze over the winter. Locks/handles were inoperable. Took forever for ford to issue recall."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Sunroof

"In 2018, 1 year after purchase, I tried to open the sunroof. I heard a pop and it stopped working. The mechanism needed to be replaced, but fortunately it was covered by warranty. This spring, in May 2020, the same thing happened. It appears to be the seals sticking and the mechanism isn't strong enough to open, so it breaks. This time it was out of warranty, so I must pay out of pocket. I'm worried it will break again, and Ford does not have a good answer."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Sun roof wouldn’t close. Took 2 trips to dealer for a known issue to repair. Roof track was faulty"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Ford F-350 FX4 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"One of the tracks broke leaving the sunroof open so I couldn't drive it in the rain. I had to call Ford to get the parts coming and it still took over two weeks to get it fixed."

Rollin B., WA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Emission control devices (includes EGR)

"Check Engine light on but difficult to isolate problem."

Anonymous, UT (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"My brand new truck with less than 1200 miles on it experienced a faulty def sensor. I was 900 miles from home with a broken leg and a toddler. The truck was so new that the local dealership didn't have the part, and they couldn't order one because there weren't any available to order. Ford would not exchange the sensor with another one in a truck sitting on their lot, stating that if they swapped sensors it would void both trucks' warranties. They Leo wouldn't pay to haul the truck back home, nor would they give me a loaner vehicle. I will never buy another Ford again."

Michelle S., UT (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Fuel pump

"Fuel pump had to be replaced in 2017 and 2018. Also the wiring harness for the pump was replaced because of corrosion . For a new truck this should not have happened under normal driving conditions. We drive on dirt roads 50 % of the time but have other ford trucks and never had problems. if this wasnt covered under extended warranty might have just gave them the truck back."

Anonymous, BC (2017 Ford F-350 6.2-L V8)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"Wiring for trailer plug in box gets wet and causes issues."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"While attached to a trailer (3-different ones) the truck would intermittently indicate a problem with the right turn/stop lights and they would cease to function, coming back on randomly. Two trips to service brought little resolution except that it may be caused by a Bluetooth OBDII sensor. Have yet to pull without the sensor in place."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Heated or cooled seats

"In the winter of 2018 the passenger seat stopped working. I took it in for repair, under warranty, and it was fixed. Earlier in 2020 the passenger seat stopped working again. It was out of warranty, so I waited a bit hoping the problem would fix itself, and it did. Combined with the sunroof problem, my opinion of Ford quality is very, very low."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"The air conditioning doesn't put out cool air."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"I have had A/C ever since I took possession of vehicle. Every year take it in for blowing hot air. At first I was told they shipped a few without refrigerant. The last trip they replaced every component in the system."

Anonymous, (2017 Ford F-350 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Oil leaks

"Two separate oil leaks on front of engine and under required much disassembly to repair. Covered under warranty. Cost could have been >$2K if out-of-pocket."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Ford F-350 Unsure 6.7-L V8 diesel)
